Bedtime Story: Jordan Sondler
Jordan Sondler is a Brooklyn-based illustrator, professor, and author of Feel It Out. She designs many things, including murals, television sets, books about feelings, children's clothing, and 90s nostalgia diaries. Most excitingly (for us, anyway!), she is the artistic talent behind two of our new pajama prints, Holiday Pasta and Play Ball.
We were thrilled to collaborate with Jordan because her illustrations radiate optimism and never fail to bring a smile, and we knew our loyal Dodo family would feel the same way. Her work is vibrant, quirky, and joy-inducing, often carrying a poignant touch rooted in well-being and self-care—something we could all use a little more of. We love everything she creates and would never play favorites, but among her many delightful creations, the googly-eyed pet portraits never fail to steal our hearts.

Thank you, Jordan, for sharing your creativity and bedtime story with us!
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE BEDTIME STORY FROM CHILDHOOD?
Goodnight Moon! I have a copy from my childhood, and I even have a tattoo inspired by it.
DID YOU KNOW YOU WANTED TO BE AN ILLUSTRATOR WHEN YOU “GREW UP”?
My high school art teacher initially chose this career for me! She was such a guiding light during my early adult years. I didn’t even know what illustration was back then, but I trusted her—and here I am today!
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DRAW?
I love drawing pet portraits, comics, and maps! Each one challenges me to think in a totally different way, but I can always see little pieces of myself in all three.
YOU’VE DESIGNED AND ILLUSTRATED SO MANY DIFFERENT THINGS—WHAT WAS THE MOST CHALLENGING AND WHAT’S ON YOUR WISH LIST?
The book I published with Harper Collins in 2020 was definitely one of the most challenging projects I’ve tackled—for so many reasons. Looking ahead, I’m really excited about diving into more world-building. I’d love to work on bigger campaigns or take on larger-scale projects!
A LOT OF PEOPLE FEEL LIKE THEY JUST CAN’T DRAW. ANY QUICK TIPS FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO TRY TO LEARN?
No one can’t draw—it’s like meditating or cooking. I think a lot of people label themselves that way because they’re measuring themselves against career artists. Honestly, though, I think someone who doesn’t see themselves as an artist can get more out of the process as an outlet. You’re less inhibited! Start by drawing from life—the tree outside your window, your favorite lamp, anything. And don’t feel like you have to show anyone! It can just be for you.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO WHEN YOU GET A LITTLE “ME” TIME?
Cook! It is the best way I know how to take care of myself. That and going to the movie theater alone.
